Resident and Studio Membership Guidelines
- All members are required to label and keep all personal items including tools, clay, in progress and completed pieces, etc. on your assigned shelf or in your designated studio area.
- Resident Member space is assigned by Red Heat Ceramic Studio Staff.
- Studio Member shelf space is assigned by Red Heat Ceramic Studio Staff.
- Additional shelf space can be purchased but is not guaranteed.
- Shelf space should be kept organized and clutter free.
- All containers must be clearly marked as to its contents.
- Non studio members are not permitted in the studio to create or fire work.
- Only Red Heat Studio clay or clay bodies approved by the staff are acceptable for use and firing.
- All studio members are responsible for studio cleanup after use. This includes all equipment, tools, tables, wheels and wedging tables.
- No clay in the sinks: put clay slurry in appropriate buckets to avoid possible clogs.
- Please keep plaster use in designated plaster area only. Finished molds may be kept in artist spaces. Plaster and clay must be used together with caution. Any clay that has been contaminated with plaster must be thrown away and not put into clay recycling bins.
- Enter and exit the building through designated doors. Remember to lock and secure the building if you are the last person out.
- Treat others in the studio with kindness and respect. If there is a conflict please speak to a staff member immediately.
- Members are not permitted to touch, move or handle work that is not their own.
- Any work, clay or tools left in the studio 15 days past the last paid date will be removed from the studio.
Equipment and Studio Areas available for use:
Slab Roller
- Always use canvas on both sides of the clay between Rollers.
- Make sure canvas is scraped on both sides if needed after you are done.
Extruder
- Keep track of dies and return to designated storage container after use.
- When finished, remove and clean all dies, inside and outside the extruder parts.
Wheels
- Wheel heads and pans will be cleaned after each use.
- Floor around each wheel must be cleaned of any excess water or clay slurry.
- Wheels must be turned off after use.
- Batts are to be cleaned for the next person to use and returned to storage area.
Glazes
- DO NOT Contaminate glazes. Wait for a glaze layer to dry before dipping or applying a second layer.
- Clean up glaze area when finished. Rinse all brushes, bowls and stirrers and put back in appropriate storage areas.
- Make sure glaze lids match the containers, buckets, containers and pint jars.
- Inform staff if the glaze bucket is empty or low.
- Wipe down table tops.
Art Work
- Each piece of clay work must have the members name on it, bottom or side if appropriate.
- Unmarked work is not the responsibility of Red Heat and will be discarded if not claimed.
Bisque Firing
- Firing frequency is based on volume of work available to fill a kiln load.
- Place dry work on designated bisque shelves for firing.
- Fired work is placed on marked shelves for pick up.
- Items left on the shelves for 15 days or more will be removed or discarded.
Glaze Firing
- Firing frequency is based on volume of work available to fill a kiln load.
- Place glazed work on designated shelves for firing.
- Bottoms of all work must be free of glaze and sides up to ¼ inch from the bottom. Work with glaze on the bottom surface or with questionable thickness will not be fired.
- Work that needs to be stilted for firing, the member must provide stilts and be available for loading their own work in a group firing.
- If glaze runs and ruins a kiln shelf, the member will be charged for the shelf or given an opportunity to immediately clean shelf for reuse.
- Fired work is placed on marked shelves for pick up.
- Items left on the shelves for 15 days of more will be removed or discarded.
Kiln Area
- Kilns will be loaded, fired and unloaded by trained staff and resident artists only. Do not touch or open a kiln that is being fired or cooled without permission and supervision.
- Firing schedule is managed by designated staff member.
Clay Mixing Area
- Clay will be available for purchase. Clay mixing area is for designated staff and resident artists that are trained to use equipment safely. Please do not use equipment without permission.
- Use proper ventilation and personal respirator.
- No food or drink in this area.
Glaze Mixing Area
- Community glaze is mixed and available for use in designated area.
- Glaze mixing is for designated staff and resident artists that are trained to measure and mix glaze materials safely. Do not use or mix glaze materials without permission.
- Use proper ventilation and personal respirator.
- No food or drink in this area.
Plaster Mixing Area
- Plaster mixing and mold making must stay in designated area. Any clay that is contaminated with plaster must be thrown away and not put into recycle bins.

Membership Terms
Terms
Full membership payment is due on the 1st of every month. Memberships that remain unpaid by the 5th of the month will expire and will be offered to new members. Payment can be submitted via the website. Failure to pay on time or communicate with the Red Heat Studio staff will result in loss of studio access and privileges, as well as disposal of property.
Artist Commitment
- Red Heat Studio membershipis for the purpose of creating works of art in clay.
- Artists retain 90% of their profits made from selling art during Red Heat Sponsored events and sales.
- Red Heat Members are responsible for upholding high standards in and around the ceramic studio.
- The studio will be kept clean and professional in appearance.
- The studio is a nonsmoking space.
- Members should be considerate of the studio rules, respect for other artist’s personal space and the need to be left alone to produce art.
- Artists are encouraged to participate in studio events, sales, exhibitions, open house opportunities and visiting artist workshops.
Studio Commitment
- Red Heat will maintain a professional environment in the studio space.
- Red Heat will maintain the facility and equipment so that artists can work in a safe and clean environment.
- Red Heat will promote the studio in the community and promote the artists that reside in the space.
Access to Space
- All Red Heat Resident and Studio members will have 24 hour access to the studio. Access to the building will be given via a key/code to the building and alarm. The last person to leave the building at any time during the day or night is responsible for securing the building, locking doors and setting the alarm. Neglect to do so will result in loss of access the studio and loss of membership.
- Guests may visit the studio with a staff, resident or studio member but are not allowed to work in the space. All guests visiting are the responsibility of the member and must be supervised and not inhibit the work of other artists in the space.
Theft or Broken Items
- Red Heat Studio is not responsible for damage or stolen Items located in the studio.
Waiver Clause
- As a member of the Red Heat Ceramic Art Studio, I am aware of the risk of my participation. The risks are physical injury associated with working around studio tools and equipment and possible injury from working in the ceramic studio with clay.I agree to indemnify and hold harmless Red Heat Ceramic Art Studio, its owner, employees, volunteers, members and representatives from any and all claims, demands, actions and costs which might arise out of my participation and working in the Red Heat facility.
